Hello and Welcome.
My name is Lynn Hill, author of two cookbooks, ‘The Clandestine Cake Club Cookbook’ and ‘A Year of Cake’.
A Yorkshire gal born and bread. Although our family spent a few months in New Zealand staying with relatives in the mid 60’s. My claim to fame back then was travelling back to the Uk on the same cruise liner as Cary Grant. Who? Exactly, I’m showing my age.
I consider myself a home baker and to improve my cooking and baking skills, I completed three online cookery courses via the Leiths Cookery School taking three of their online courses.
- Cooking Essentails – 24 week online course with an online assesment.
- Introduction to Patisserie – 10 week online course
- Basic to Baker – 10 week online course.
However, my first cooking lesson was in school in the 1950s, and it was a disaster. The class was instructed on how to boil an egg so that we could make egg sandwiches for lunch. There was no Delia Smith to guide us in those days. Out of the whole class, only one person actually managed to boil their egg successfully, the rest of us had to drool over her delicious sandwich as she sat and ate lunch. I normally went home for lunch, but that day I’d arranged to stay. I quickly changed my mind and dashed home for something to eat. I was fortunate, my mother was always as home in those days, so going home at lunchtime having a break from school, broke up the day for me.
Jack of All Trades – Master of None
I consider myself a Jack of all Trades but Master of None. I can virtually put my hand to anything, or at least try. This is why I spend a lot of time throwing spaghetti at the wall to see if it sticks, that’s my philosophy in life whenever I try something new. Just do it! I’ve had more attempts and failures with projects over the years, but the one I am most proud of, apart from family, of course, is The Clandestine Cake Club and the cookbooks I have written.
My venture into food blogging began when I rebranded from the Clandestine Cake Club to Traditional Home Baking. the difficult years of 2020/2021 meant that more and more people were staying at home baking or learning how to bake, that my new site proved so popular, that I was able to apply to Mediavine ad company. In early 2022 I sold the website, why, because I achieved the goals I had set out for the website and needed a new challenge.
What’s Next for Lynn Hill?
Fast forward to 2022 after the sale of my website Traditional Home Baking, I needed to fill the void that is left behind. So rather than set my goals too low, I have given myself a year or two to complete my next project. At this moment in time, I have no plans to send it out into the universe, in the hope it spurs me on to get things done, but as a firm believer in fate, I’m going to keep things close to my chest for now.
My goal in achieving this project is to enjoy the journey to see where it takes me. I will visualise each step of the way, rather than see the complete thing. I want to get to ‘Z’ but in order to get there, I need to go to the beginning of the Alphabet and begin with the letter ‘A’, working my way through each step in the journey.
So that’s it. A brief history of me, Lynn Hill. My advice to you if you are looking for a new challenge. Is simply this.
Just do it.
See where the journey takes you. Good Luck. x
